Opéra National Montpellier Occitanie to Present ‘Falstaff’

By David Salazar

Opéra National Montpellier Occitanie is set to present a new production of “Falstaff” this January.

The production, directed by David Hermann, will be conducted by Michael Schønwandt.

The title role of Verdi’s final masterpiece will be performed by baritone Bruno Taddia, with American-Romanian baritone Andrew Manea as Ford and tenor Kevin Amiel—an ADAMI Classical Discovery and AROP Prize winner—as Fenton. Soprano Angélique Boudeville appears as Alice Ford and mezzo-soprano Kamelia Kader as Mrs. Quickly. Marie Lenormand sings Meg Page, and soprano Julia Muzychenko appears as Nannetta.

“I have conducted “Falstaff” over sixty times! Each time I return to this score, I start laughing,” Schønwandt said per an official press release. “I find it a work full of life, a philosophy of life, and large, communicative smile for the musicians and public, and my entire vision of life can be found in it.”

The opera opens at the Opéra Comédie on Jan. 7, 2026, and runs through Jan. 13, 2026.
