Opéra National de Paris to Stream Pretty Yende’s ‘Manon’

By David Salazar

The Opéra National de Paris is teaming up with France.TV to showcase its new production of Massenet’s “Manon.”

The production starred Pretty Yende and Benjamin Bernheim as Manon and Des Grieux. Roberto Tagliavini and Ludovic Tézier also appeared withthe production conducted by Dan Ettinger and directed by Vincent Huguet. The showcase struggled to make it to the stage in late February due to the strikes that had been shutting down Paris Opera productions for months.

And when it seemed that this “Manon” might finally see the light of day, the theaters around Europe were forced to shut down in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19. However, the Opéra National de Paris was able to record the production with the opening night cast and will now showcase it to audiences online.

There is a caveat – only audiences in France will have access to the showcase for now. It kicks off at 7:30 p.m. in France (2:30 p.m. EDT and 11:30 a.m. PT).
