Opera Naples is set to introduce a new lecture series this year, highlighting works from its upcoming season.

The company will open its “A Toast to Opera” series on Nov. 29, 2018, at the Wang Opera Center, taking a look at the company’s upcoming production of “Aida.” The presentation will be done in conjunction with Theatre Zone, which is set to produce the Broadway musical version of “Aida” by Elton John and Tim Rice.

Per a press release, the event will feature a presentation by Tom Cimarusti and Theatre Zone’s Artistic Director Mark Danni. Cimarusti is an Associate Professor of Musicology at the Florida Gulf Coast University.

“The exotic aura of Ancient Egypt and a dose of pure passion make for one of the most spectacular operas of all-time,” Cimarusti stated in the release. “Join us as we explore themes of love, loyalty, and sacrifice in Verdi’s classic tale, ‘Aida.’”

Verdi’s antepenultimate opera will get performances with the company starting on Dec. 19 and 21. It will feature Svetlana Aksenova in the title role with Marianne Cornetti as Amneris. Marc Heller will appear as Radamès while Ramón Tebar will conduct.
