Opera Naples Announces Recital With Maria José Montiel

Opera Naples has announced its first major recital of the recital featuring world-renowned mezzo-soprano MarÍa José Montiel.

Known for her interpretation as Carmen, Montiel, will be joined by artistic director Ramón Tebar in a recital that will include French, Spanish and Brazilian songs as well as beloved operatic arias.

Montiel has many accolades, including the prize for Best Female Singer in the 2012 Teatro Campoamor Opera Award Ceremony, and was the first Spanish singer to win in this category in the history of the awards. The mezzo has had a prolific and long-lasting career singing such notable conductors as  Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Chailly and Plácido Domingo.

The recital will be on Jan. 31 at 7:30.

The company also announced that violinist Frank Huang will give a recital on Jan. 16. The program will include Beethoven’s Spring Sonata, Saint-Saens’ Rondo Capriccioso, and Strauss Sonata for Violin and Piano, and more.

Opera Naples is the premiere opera company in Naples, Florida and presents some of the greatest singers in the opera world. Next year the company showcases Luca Salsi in recital and also sees the return to the Renata Scotto Academy.
