Opera Memphis to Present ‘Scalia / Ginsburg’ For One Night Only

Opera Memphis has announced that it will present “Scalia/Ginsburg” for one night only on June 12, 2021.

The showcase will take place at the Germantown Performing Arts Center and starts at 7 p.m. with a preshow talk kicking off at 6:15.

The opera will star Dane Suarez in the role of Justice Anton Scalia with Stephanie Doche as Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Darren K. Stokes as The Commentator.

Suarez has appeared with such companies as West Bay Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Opera in the Heights, and Opera Neo. Doche has appeared with such companies as the Florida Grand Opera Louisiane, and Opera NEO. She is slated to appear at Opera Company of Middlebury and Finger Lakes Opera, among others, in 2021.

Stokes has appeared with such companies as Lyric Opera of Chicago, Grant Park Music Festival, Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati May Festival, Boston Lyric Opera, Chicago Opera Theater, Washington National Opera, Opera Theater of St. Louis, San Francisco Opera, the Ravinia Festival, Opera Memphis, San Antonio Opera, Indianapolis Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, San Francisco Opera, Opera Saratoga (Lake George Opera), Eugene Opera, The Dallas Opera, Seattle Opera and the Cleveland Orchestra, among others.

The opera, which was created by composer / librettist Derrick Wang, debuted in 2015 and has appeared with several companies including Glimmerglass Festival, Opera Delaware, Opera Grand Rapids, and more.
