Opera Maine Reschedules 2020 Season

By David Salazar

Opera Maine has announced that it will be postponing its 2020 season until 2021.

As a result, the company will reschedule its productions of “The Flying Dutchman,” and Philip Glass’ “The Fall of the House of Usher” for July 2021. The production of the early Wagner masterpiece is aimed at celebrating the state’s bicentennial and will be set in 19th century Maine.

“Although we had held out hope that we would all be able to come together this summer, we now realize that it would not be in the best interest of public safety,” Dona D. Vaughn, Artistic Director, and Caroline Koelker, Executive Director, stated in a joint press statement.

Regarding other events on the 2020 calendar, the company remains open to the possibility of performing as scheduled. Among those events in consideration are the outdoor concert at Lincoln Park on July 14, 2020 and a production of “Bon Appétit!” set for Sept. 13 and 15, 2020.
