Opera Lafayette Unveils 2023-24 Season, ‘Era of Madame de Maintenon’

Opera Lafayette has unveiled its 2023-24 season, titled “Era of Madame de Maintenon.”

It all kicks off with “Couperin le Grand” at The Kennedy Center and the Kosciuszko Foundation. The concert, which features music by Couperin, will be headlined by conductor Christophe Rousset, bass-baritone Jonathan Woody, and violinist Jacob Ashworth.

Performance Dates: Oct. 25 (DC), Oct. 26 (NYC)

Next up is “From Saint-Cyr to Cannons: Moreau and Händel’s ‘Esther’,” a performance featuring works by Morean and Händel.” Jonathan Woody performs alongside harpsichordist Justin Taylor.

Performance Dates: Feb. 8, 2024 (DC), May 9, 2024 (NYC)

For the final production of the year, audiences will get a chance to check out Mouret’s “Les Fêtes de Thalie.” Christophe Rousset conducts and Claire van Kampen directs. The opera stars Jonathan Woody, Angel Azzara, Pascale Beaudin, Jean Bernard Cerin, Ah Young Hong, Patrick Kilbride, Matthew Newlin, Margot Rood, and John Taylor Ward.

Performance Dates: May 3, 2024 (DC), May 7, 2024 (NYC)

All performances will feature a pre-concert discussion.
