Opera Ithaca to Present Mozart Masterpiece Set in Gated Community

By David Salazar

Opera Ithaca is set to present Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” on April 8 and 10, 2022.

The opera will star Jake Stamatis, Nayoung Ban, Donata Cucinotta, John Allen Nelson, and Kara Cornell. Andy Anderson conducts while Ben Robinson directs.

“The relationship between the Almavivas, vibrant and effervescent in ‘The Barber of Seville,’ has decayed; they have become too absorbed into what they can afford and have grown apart,” said Robinson about his approach to the opera, which will be set in a gated community / upper-class suburbia.

All attendees will be asked to provide proof of vaccination and boosters and must wear a mask throughout the performance.

This is the final production Opera Ithaca’s 2021-22 season, which featured such works as “Hansel and Gretel” and “We Wear the Sea Like a Coat.”
