Opera in the Pines to Present ‘Bar Crawl Bohème’

By Logan Martell

On May 10, 2023, Opera in the Pines will kick off its “Bar Crawl Bohème” tour throughout local venues in Maine.

Puccini’s classic opera will be transposed into the modern day, and set within 2019, with an English libretto by Kristine McIntyre and updated by Sable Strout. The cast will be comprised of Maine natives, with sopranos Mary Johnston Letellier and Kimberly Ouelette, tenor Robert Gerold, and baritones Daniel Laverriere, Joshua Miller, and Tyler Putnam. They will be accompanied by Josie DiPhilippo.

The first performance will be held on May 10 at Maine Beer Company. That will be followed by a showcase at Three of Strong Spirits on May 11, with a finale taking place at Oyster River Winegrowers on May 12. Each location will include culinary pairings from Momma Baldacci’s and The Uproot Pie Company.

Each performance of “La Bohème” will last 50 minutes; the opera will be presented without intermission.
