Opera Holland Park Postpones ‘Un Ballo in Maschera’ Stream

By Francisco Salazar

Opera Holland Park is postponing its streaming of Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera.”

In a press release, the company said, “Opera Holland Park is aware of the #BlackOutTuesday movement among parts of the music industry that began to gather pace yesterday. We are individually and as a company committed to equality and we understand the desire of the music industry to make a strong statement about this issue.

“We will therefore now broadcast ‘Un Ballo in Maschera’ on Wednesday June 3, at 7.30pm instead of this evening.”

The production, which was set to be streamed on June 2, was directed by Rodula Gaitanou, who took the opera’s original setting of the 18th century and shifted it to 1940s.

Mathew Kofi Waldren conducts the City of London Sinfonia and a cast starring soprano Anne Sophie Duprels, tenor Matteo Lippi, and baritone George von Bergen.
