Opera Hispánica Announces Jorge Parodi’s Appointment & First Virtual Event

By David Salazar

Opera Hispánica has announced that Jorge Parodi will be its new General and Artist Director.

Parodi has conducted opera around the world and is the Artistic Director of the Tokyo International Vocal Arts Academy, the Music Director of Senior Opera Theater at the Manhattan School of Music, of Opera in Williamsburg, and of the International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia. He also serves on the faculty of The Juilliard School.

“I am delighted to assume the position of Opera Hispánica’s new General and Artistic Director. The value of OH’s mission is doubly relevant: it promotes the exposure of centuries-old Spanish and Latin vocal tradition while securing its future growth and enrichment; and brings forth a wealth of artists and performers to affirm the pride in our heritage. I envision that OH will soon become the vessel that will bring together many cultures, many countries, many lives, many people through beautiful singing, exciting performances, and engaging community events”, said Parodi in a press release.

Parodi’s appointment will be launched with an online celebration and fundraiser entitled “Las Majas de Opera Hispánica,” which will feature performances by Isabel Leonard, Nancy Herrera, Veronica Villarroel, Catalina Cuervo, and Camille Zamora. The event will take place on Dec. 4, 2020 and can be viewed on the organization’s Facebook page.
