On April 30, 2023, Oper Frankfurt and Komische Oper Berlin will co-present the Frankfurt premiere of Handel’s “Hercules.”

First premiering in January 1745, the oratorio was met with mixed reception further complicated by a run cut short due to illness within the cast. Modern musicologists have recognized Handel’s endeavor towards a new sound through the blend of opera and oratorio elements.

British Conductor Laurence Cummings will make his company debut in this new production, directed by Barrie Kosky. The cast features Anothony Robin Schneider in the title role, Paula Murrihy as Dejanira, Michael Porter as Hylus, Elena Villaion as Iole, and Kelsey Lauritano as Lichas.

Performances will be held on May 3, 6, 14, 18, 21, and 26, 2023. Tickets are available starting at 16 Euros.
