By David Salazar

The Opera Festival of the Stone Theaters is set to launch its 2022 edition, entitled “Il Risveglio.”

The organization announced that Bizet’s “Carmen” will take centerstage at the ancient theaters of Syracuse on August 6, Taormina on August 9, and Tindari on August 12.

There will also be a performance of “Cavalleria Rusticana” in the first-ever national performance of the critical edition; this will include passages cut by L. Mugnone during the first performance. This performance is aimed at honoring the 100th anniversary of the death of Sicilian writer Giovanni Verga.

There will also be a celebration of soprano Renata Tebaldi’s centenary at the Greek Theater of Syracuse on July 31st. This will include the “Puccini and Verdi Gala.” There will also be an event honoring “ the courage of two authors who belong to the same land as the assassinated judges: Antonio Fortunato, the composer, and Gaspare Miraglia, the librettist: ‘Falcone e Borsellino, or the wall of the martyrs.’”
