Opera Director Peter Stein to Appear at2023 Usedom Literary Days

Famed director Peter Stein will give a series of public talks as part of the 15th Usedom Literary Days.

Scheduled for May 3, 2023, the public events will see Stein in conversation with publicist Manfred Osten about his life in opera and theater. Stein famously directed “The Magic Flute” productions at La Scala in 2016 and “Don Carlo” at the Salzburg Festival in 2017. He also directed operas in the Opéra National de Paris and Welsh National Opera, among other venues.

Other career milestones include a 12-hour adaptation of Dostoevsky’s “Demons” at the Lincoln Center Festival in 2010 and a two-day production of Goethe’s “Faust” at the Expo 2000 in Hannover. In 2011, he received the Europe Theatre Prize in St. Petersburg.

The Usedom Literary Days 2023 will feature the Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Olga Tokarczuk, historian Christopher Clark, and new Usedom Literary Prize Awardee Sofi Oksanen, as well as an event in memory of Jewish authors on the occasion of 90 years of book burnings by the Nazis.
