Opéra de Toulon has announced the cancelation of Jacques Offenbach’s opera “Le voyage dans la lune.” The opera was set to run between April 23 and April 27, 2021 for a total of three performances.

The cast for the opera included Sheva Tehoval, Jennifer Michel, Francis Dudziak, Violette Polchi, Eric Vignau, Thibaut Desplantes, Pierre-Antoine Chaumien, Marie Lenormand, and Pierre Derhet. Pierre Dumoussaud and Chloé Dufresne were signed on to conduct the production by Olivier Fredj.

French opera houses have been closed since late October 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic worries. The cabinet of Prime Minister Jean Castex is devising plans about the possible relaxation of tough lockdown measures in mid-April if the epidemiological situation allows. However, the number of patients admitted to hospital intensive care units with COVID-19 in France has now reached levels last seen in November 2020.

The country has logged 30,303 new COVID-19 cases on March 10, 2021.
