Opéra de Toulon has canceled its run of Mozart and Da Ponte’s opera “Così fan tutte.” The opera was scheduled to take the stage between March 16 and 21, 2021.

The famed operatic masterwork was set to star Ana Maria Labin in the role of Fiordiligi, Marion Lebègue as Dorabella, Pauline Courtin in the role of Despina, Alasdair Kent as Ferrando, Vincenzo Nizzardo in the role of Guglielmo, and Laurent Alvaro as Don Alfonso.

Jurjen Hempel was signed on to conduct the production by Christophe Gayral.

French opera houses have been closed since the end of October 2020, after the second COVID-19 wave struck France in full force. The country is currently under a nationwide curfew between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The French government has also drastically tightened border controls in a bid to curb the spread of the highly infectious novel SARS-CoV-2 variants.
