Opéra National de Paris has opened its doors for the first time in months and will present Offenbach and Barbier’s opera “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” today, January 25, 2020, at the Opéra Bastille, per an official statement on the company’s website.

This is the first performance of “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” of the season after an earlier one was annulled due to the strike notice.

The strike against the French pension reform had led to a number of high profile cancelations, including Borodin’s “Prince Igor” and Bellini’s “Il Pirata” in December, as well as Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” and the ballet-opera “L’Après-midi d’un faune”/”L’Enfant et les sortilèges” in January.

“Les Contes d’Hoffmann” will star Michael Fabiano, Jodie Devos, Véronique Gens, Ailyn Pérez, Gaëlle Arquez, Sylvie Brunet-Grupposo, Rodolphe Briand, Hyun-Jong Roh, Jean Teitgen, Philippe Talbot, Laurent Naouri, Olivier Ayault and Jean-Luc Ballestra.

Sir Mark Elder is signed on to conduct the production by Robert Carsen. Stage set and costumes by Michael Levine.
