By Francisco Salazar

The French Ministry of Culture has announced the reduction of the Opéra de París’ budget.

According to Radiofrance, the budget will be cut by six million euros.

Furthermore, the news comes after the cancellation of more than 200 million credits imposed on the Ministry of Culture, resulting in nationwide budget cuts to large cultural institutions.

In 2023, the Opéra de París had a state subsidy of €99.8 million and saw the company close the budget year with a significant net profit of €2.3 million for the first time since 2017.

Budget cuts were also seen by the Comédie-Française which will be reduced by five million euros, while the Théâtre national de Chaillot will see its budget drop by €500,000. Finally, the Louvre Museum will see a three million euro reduction in subsidies.

The Opéra de París recently announced its 2024-25 season and will open with “Falstaff.”
