Opéra de Paris Announces Cast Change for ‘Turandot’

The Opéra de Paris has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of “Turandot.”

The company announced that Vanessa Vasquez has withdrawn from the production. As a result, the role of Liù will be performed by Guanqun Yu.

Yu has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, LA Opera Staatsoper Hamburg, Opernhaus Zurich, Teatro Real and Teatro Comunale di Bologna. She is well known for her Verdi, Mozart, and Puccini interpretations. This season the soprano opens the LA Opera in a new production of “Il Trovatore” and returns to the Staatsoper Hamburg for “Turandot.”

The soprano will join a cast that includes Elena Pankratova in the title role, Gwyn Hughes Jones as Calaf, and Vitalij Kowaljow as Timur. Gustavo Dudamel conducts the production Dec. 1, 2021.
