The Opéra de Paris has announced a cast change for its production of “Tristan und Isolde.”

In an official statement, the company said, “Gwyn Hughes Jones has withdrawn from the production and as a result, the role of Tristan will be performed by Michael Weinius.”

He joins a cast that includes Mary Elizabeth Williams, Okka von der Damerau, Ryan Speedo Green, Eric Owens, and Neal Cooper. Gustavo Dudamel conducts the production by Peter Sellars.

Weinius is set to star in the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s “Tristan Project,” a three-night performance of the famed opera, this December. He also performed the role at the Opernhaus Zürich in June and at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in 2021. The Swedish tenor has also appeared at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, Opera Bastille in Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Grand Theatre de Geneve, Oper Leipzig, Den Norske Opera in Oslo and Deutsche Oper in Berlin.

“Tristan und Isolde” is set to run between Jan. 17 – Feb. 4, 2023.
