Opéra de Paris Announces Cast Change for ‘Romeo et Juliette’ Performance

By Francisco Salazar

Opéra de Paris has announced a cast change for its production of “Romeo et Juliette.”

The company has stated that Pretty Yende has canceled the performance on  June 30, 2023. As a result, the role of Juliette will be performed by Amina Edris.

The news comes after Yende took to Instagram following a June 27 performance in which she said “You can’t sing with a broken heart.” She added in her post that she had a serious family emergency in Johannesburg and was headed to the city.

Edris has previously sung at the Paris Opera in a production of “Manon.” Previously she performed the role of Juliette at the San Francisco Opera and received rave reviews with critics noting she “took command of the stage.”

Edris joins a cast that includes Francesco Demuro, Marina Viotti, Laurent Naouri, and Jean Teitgen. Carlo Rizzi conducts.
