The Òpera de Paris has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of “Lear.”

The company announced that due to health reasons Andreas Scheibner was forced to withdraw from the role of Herzog von Albany. As a result, Derek Welton will interpret the part, making his house debut.

Welton recently performed the role of Herzog at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in May. He is a soloist at the Deutsche Oper Berlin where he is scheduled to perform “Hansel and Gretel,” “Les Huguenots,” “Le Prophete,” “Thais,” “Das Rheingold,” and “Parsifal.”

The baritone joins a cast that includes Bo Skovhus in the title role, Gidon Saks, Michael Colvin, Kor-Jan Dusseljee, Lauri Vasar, Andrew Watts, Andreas Conrad, Evelyn Herlitzius, Erika Sunnegardh, Annette Dasch, Ernst Alisch, Luca Sannai, and Lucas Prisor.

The production opens on Nov. 21, 2019 and is set to be conducted by Fabio Luisi.
