The Opéra de Paris has announced a cast change for its production of “Elektra.”

The company noted that Waltraud Meier has withdrawn from the production and as a result, the role of Klytämnestra will be interpreted by Angela Denoke.

Denoke is a German soprano who has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, Salzburg Festival, Bayerische Staatsoper, Theater Ulm, Welsh National Opera, and Festival Aix-En-Provence. Her repertoire includes the works of Wagner, Strauss, Janacek, and Britten.

Denoke will join a cast that includes Christine Goerke in the title role, Elza van den Heever, Gerhard Siegel, and Tómas Tomasson. Semyon Bychkov and Case Scaglione conduct the production by Robert Carsen.

“Elektra” will be performed at the Opéra Bastille from May 10 to June 1, 2022.
