The Opéra de Paris has announced a cast change for its production of “7 Deaths of Maria Callas”

The company announced that Nadezhda Karyazina withdrew from the role of Carmen. As a result, the role will be performed by Adèle Charvet, who will sing “La Habanera” in the production.

The mezzo-soprano will join soloists Selene Zanetti, Leah Hawkins, Lauren Fagan, Adela Zaharia, Hera Hyesang Park, and Gabriella Reyes. The production stars Marina Abramović, who conceived the project and Willem Dafoe.

“7 Deaths of Maria Callas” is a co-production with the Bayerische Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, and the Greek National Opera.

The work will open the 2021-22 season Sept. 1 and runs through Sept. 4, at the Palais Garnier.
