The Ópera de Oviedo has postponed the opening of “Madama Butterfly” for a third time.

The Spanish company announced that the opera, which is set to star Ainhoa Arteta and Jorge de León, was postponed due to new restrictions set in order to stop the spread of COVID-19.

As a result, the opera will open on Dec. 9 instead of its originally scheduled Dec. 6 date. The Dec. 6 date will be replaced by a new performance on Dec. 20.

The theater announced that the opening of “Fidelio” has also been canceled and will be rescheduled for Dec. 10. An additional performance will be added for ticketholders of the Dec. 7 performance on Dec. 11.

The Ópera de Oviedo will be performing under social distancing guidelines with limited audiences. Oviedo originally set to open “Madama Butterly” at the beginning of November before postponing the production to Nov. 20 and later to Dec. 6.
