Opéra de Montréal To Screen ‘Carmen’ In 26 Venues Across Québec
By Francisco SalazarOn Feb. 23, 26 multidisciplinary venues throughout Québec will be showing Bizet’s “Carmen” on their screens as part of the Une Carmen pour tout le Québec event.
For the event, the entire Opéra de Montréal team, in collaboration with SPEC du Haut-Richelieu, will be at the Cabaret-Théâtre du Vieux-Saint-Jean to celebrate this very first indoor screening in the company’s history, joined by the production’s creative team and valued project partners.
One hour prior to the screening, audience members from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and surrounding areas will be invited to attend a free talk with major artists and participants of the production, including stage director Charles Binamé, mezzo-soprano Krista de Silva, tenor Antoine Bélanger , and and Artistic Director of the Opéra de Montréal Michel Beaulac.
The upcoming screening follows the recording of a performance presented at the Place des Arts in May 2019. Directed by renowned filmmaker Charles Binamé, and performed by an all-Canadian cast, this screening will be the first of its kind for the Opéra de Montréal.
The video recording stars an all-Canadian cast with mezzo-soprano Krista de Silva in the title role, Antoine Bélanger in the role of Don José, Christopher Dunham as Escamillo and France Bellemare as Micaëla. Alain Trudel conducts.
