On Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, the Opéra de Montréal held its third TALENT Gala which showcased the National Auditions for the Atelier lyrique Program.

The event raised around $360,000, a major increase from the year before. Moreover, the company announced the 10 finalists for five spots in the Atelier Lyrique, a two-year artist-in-resident training program with the famed opera company.

The 10 finalists included one American singer with the remaining nine hailing from all over Canada. They include baritone Andrew Adridge, mezzo-soprano Jilian Bonner, soprano Sarah Dufresne, mezzo-soprano Sydney Frodsham (the lone American), tenor River Guard, soprano Charlotte Siegel, baritone Marcel Sokalski, baritone Jonah Spungin, soprano Caroline Stanczyk, and soprano Lucie St-Martin.

Dufresne was also given the $3,000 Stingray Rising Stars Award courtesy of an audience vote. The other nine finalists were given a $1,000 bursary.

“The support and enthusiasm for this program and our young artists is just phenomenal.  We are delighted to put Canada’s future opera stars centre stage because the talent in Canada is exceptional,” stated Patrick Corrigan, the General Director of the Opéra de Montréal, in a press release.
