Opéra de Montréal Adds Performance Of ‘Carmen’

By Francisco Salazar

The Opéra de Montréal has announced an additional performance of Bizet’s “Carmen” on May 13, 2019.

The company announced in a press release that the new production conceived and directed by renowned Quebec filmmaker Charles Binamé has received a great draw. The work returns to the company after 14 years and as a result, an extra performance was necessary. The last time the company presented Bizet’s ever-popular opera was May 2005.

The opera is set to star Krista de Silva in the title role with Antoine Bélanger as Don José. Soprano France Bellemare and baritone Christopher Dunham round out the cast as Micaëla and Escamillo. Alain Trudel conducts the work.

“Carmen” opens on May 4, 2019, and is set to close on May 13. This season Opéra de Montréal will also present Verdi’s “Rigoletto,” Wagner’s ‘Das Rheingold” and Terence Blanchard and Michael Cristofer’s “Champion.”
