Opéra de Monte-Carlo Announces Cast Change for ‘Il Turco in Italia’

The Opéra de Monte-Carlo has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of “Il Turco in Italia.”

The company noted that Ildar Abrazakov has withdrawn from the production due to personal reasons. In his stead, audiences will hear Adrian Sâmpetrean in the role of Selim for all performances scheduled between Jan. 21 and 27, 2022 (a total of four shows).

Sâmpetrean will join a cast that stars Cecilia Bartoli, José Maria Lo Monaco, Barry Banks, David Astorga, Nicola Alaimo, and Giovanni Romeo. Gianluca Capuano conducts the production directed by Jean-Louis Grinda.

Sâmpetrean has performed at such organizations as the Salzburg Festival, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Staatsoper Hamburg, Staatsoper Berlin, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, and the Opéra de Paris.
