Opéra de Lyon Postpones Production, Makes Changes to Season Due to Financial Difficulties
By David SalazarThe Opéra de Lyon has been forced to trim down its current season due to financial difficulties.
Per reports by Lyon Mag, the company will trim down three major events scheduled for the coming months. Its open day “Backstage,” which was scheduled for May 6, will no longer take place. Meanwhile, the production of “On purge Bébé!,” which was set for June 5-17, 2023, is now rescheduled for a later season.
Finally, the Péristyle Festival, which was originally set to take place on June 22 is now set for August 5, 2023.
Per an official press statement, the company noted that the decisions were due to “decreases in subsidies, energy crisis, inflation and social crisis linked to the pension reform having led to numerous cancellations of shows.”
This is the latest French opera company to announce changes to its season due to financial constraints. Earlier this year, the Opéra National du Rhin was also forced to change up its season due to similar complications.
