Opéra de Lausanne Announces New Director

The Opéra de Lausanne has announced that Claude Cortese will be the company’s next Director.

The company said that following a recruitment process that began in September 2022, the Commission selection committee unanimously proposed to the Foundation Board and the Municipality of Lausanne to appoint de Cortese.

He will succeed current Opéra de Lausanne director Eric Vigié in July 2024

Cortese was selected among 50 applications. He is a trained musician, who developed a passion for opera very early and became a stage manager at the age of 19. He went on to become a production manager at the Grand Théâtre de Genève and held various artistic director positions at Angers Nantes Opéra, at the Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy, and then at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg where he currently serves as director of artistic production.
