By Francisco Salazar

The Opéra Comique has announced a cast change for its production of “Carmen.”

The company said that “due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Maestro Long Yu and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra are unfortunately unable to participate in performances of the new production of ‘Carmen’ directed by Andreas Homoki from April 24 to May 4, in co-production with the Beijing Music Festival and the Zurich Opera.” As result, “they will be replaced by the Orchester des Champs-Elysées under the direction of Louis Langree for the first four dates and Sora Elisabeth Lee for the last two.

“The Opéra-Comique sincerely hopes that 2024 or 2025 will be more favorable to the collaboration initiated with the Beijing Music Festival and Maestro Long Yu.”

“Carmen” is set to star Gaëlle Arquez, Frédéric Antoun, Nathalie Manfrino, Jean-Fernand Setti, Norma Nahoun, Aliénor Feix, François Lis, Jean-Christophe Lanièce, Matthieu Walendzik, and Paco Garcia.
