Among the seven are soprano Francesca Mehrotra, mezzo-soprano Joanne Evans, tenor David Soto Zambrana, baritone Steve Valenzuela, bass-baritone Keith Kline, bass-baritone Turner Staton, and collaborative pianist Oleg Bellini.

The chosen singers receive training, coaching, and multiple performance opportunities. During the company’s 40th anniversary season, the artists in residence will perform in schools, concert settings, tours, and mainstage productions including student matinee performances.

Their first concert will be a showcase featuring opera, musical theatre, and more. It will take place on Sept. 30 at 7 pm in the Studio Loft at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. The seven artists will also be in a touring production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Pirates of Penzance” and Gounod’s “Romeo and Juliet.

Greg Carpenter, Opera Colorado’s Artistic Director said via a press release, “Opera Colorado’s Artist in Residence Program is an important thread in the artistic fabric of our company. Artists in Residence are ambassadors for opera through our education and community engagement activities. Their talents are showcased through supporting roles in our mainstage productions, and they represent our commitment to nurturing a new generation of opera artists.”
