Opera Australia and Sydney Festival in association with Circa will present the Sydney Premiere of Opera Queensland’s reimagining of Gluck’s “Orpheus & Eurydice” at the Sydney Opera House on Jan. 12.

Making his Opera Australia debut in the role of Orfeo is countertenor Christophe Dumaux. He performs alongside Opera Australia principal soprano Cathy-Di Zhang in the roles of Eurydice and Amore. Also sharing the stage is the Circa Ensemble, Opera Australia Circus, Opera Australia Chorus, and Opera Australia Orchestra. Dane Lam conducts and Yaron Lifschitz directs.

“Orpheus & Eurydice” marks Opera Australia’s first collaboration with the contemporary circus troupe, Circa. Together they present a fusion of opera and circus acts, blending acrobatics and digital elements to complement Gluck’s score.

The production is sung in Italian with English supertitles provided. “Orpheus & Eurydice” runs through the end of January.
