Opera Australia has canceled the remainder of its winter season due to COVID-19.

The company announced via social media that “due to the extension of the NSW Government’s stay-at-home restrictions and subsequent Health Orders, we’re sadly unable to proceed with the remainder of our winter season at the Sydney Opera House. This includes our productions of ‘Aida,’ ‘Attila,’ and ‘Otello.'”

The company noted that the productions will be postponed for a future season, so audiences will have an opportunity to see the works.

Affected customers will be contacted about their options.

The news comes days after the company postponed a new staging of Les Contes d’Hoffmann for a future season

Australia is currently seeing a spike in COVID-19 due to the Delta variant. Sydney and Melbourne are currently under stay at home orders in order to stop the spread of the virus.
