Opera Australia has announced its 2024 season, the first under new artistic director Jo Davies.

Melbourne

The Melbourne season opens with “BMW Opera for All,” a concert series in collaboration with Orchestra Victoria.

Performance Dates: Feb. 3, 2024

Next up is “Tosca.” Edward Dick directs and Garry Walker conducts.

Performance Dates: May 24 – 30, 2024

Missy Mazzoli’s “Breaking the Waves” will be conducted by Jessica Cottis and directed by Anne-Louise Sarks. Jennifer Black and Duncan Rock star.

Performance Dates: July 26 & 28, 2024

There will be a Puccini gala featuring Nicole Car, Peter Coleman-Wright, Julie Lea Goodwin, and Joseph Calleja.

Performance Dates: July 25 & 27, 2024

Tahu Matheson conducts the world premiere of Mills’ “Eucalyptus.” The work, written by Meredith Oakes stars Simon Meadows and Desiree Frahn. Michael Gow directs.

Performance Dates: Oct. 16-19, 2024

Geelong

Paul Fitzsimon conducts “The Magic Flute” with a cast starring Celeste Lazarenko, Shanul Sharma, Andrew Moran, Esther Song, David Parkin, and Jane Ede. Kate Gaul directs.

Performance Dates: Nov. 9-16, 2024

“Chorus!” will spotlight the best ensembles in opera. Paul Fitzsimon conducts and Matthew Barclay directs.

Performance Dates: Nov. 13-15, 2024

Sydney

“Watershed” will make its Sydney debut in a production directed by Neil Armfield. Brett Weymark conducts and Pelham Andrews and Mark Oates star.

Performance Dates: June 14-16, 2024

Next up is “Tosca.” Edward Dick directs and Johannes Fritzsch and Tahu Matheson conduct.

Lidiya Yankovskaya conducts “Il Trittico” in a production by Constantine Costi, Imara Savage, and Shaun Rennie.

Performance Dates: July 3 – 19, 2024

Brett Dean’s “Hamlet” heads to the Sydney Opera House for the first time ever. Neil Armfield directs a production starring Allan Clayton and Lorina Gore. Tim Anderson conducts.

Performance Dates: July 20 – August 9, 2024

David McVicar’s “Così fan tutte” will be conducted by Zoe Zeniodi.

Performance Dates: August 1-17, 2024

Jack Symonds conducts “Gilgamesh.” Kip Williams directs.

Performance Dates: Sept. 26 – Oct. 5, 2024

Additionally, there will be a National Tour of “La Bohème” as directed by Dean Bryant. Also on offer is a Great Opera Hits concert with dates to be announced.
