By Logan Martell

On April 6, 2023, Opera Atelier will conclude its 2022-23 season with Händel’s “The Resurrection.”

Held at Koerner Hall, TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning, the performance marks the Canadian premiere of the work in a fully-staged production for a live audience. Conductor David Fallis will conduct Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, with the Artists of Atelier Ballet performing choreography by Founding Co-Artistic Director Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg C.M.. There will be a multi-level set by OA resident set designer Gerard Gauci.

The cast will include prominent Canadian artists such as sopranos Carla Huhtana and Meghan Lindsay, mezzo Allyson McHardy, tenor Colin Ainsworth, and bass-baritone Douglas Williams.

“It is a delight to perform Händel’s work in Toronto’s celebrated Koerner Hall,” said Lajeunesse Zingg in an official press statement. “Händel’s superb score will be well-served by the hall’s renowned acoustics, as our artists explore the ecstatic sensuality of Counter-Reformation Rome.”
