Opera Atelier Announces New Release Date for ‘Something Rich & Strange’

By David Salazar

Opera Atelier has announced that it will now release “Something Rich & Strange” on Dec. 12, 2020.

The company was set to premiere the production earlier this year but was forced to cancel live performances due to concerns over COVID-19.

“The COVID-19 protocols Opera Atelier has been working under have acted as a genuine catalyst for creation – pushing us in new directions we would have never otherwise dreamed of. ‘Something Rich & Strange’ promises to live up to its title, by featuring Baroque arias and dances exploring the themes of sleep, visions and dreams — and will include theatre music by Handel, Lully, Locke and Purcell,” stated Opera Atelier Co-Artistic Director Pynkoski in a press release.

The opera will star Sopranos Measha Brueggergosman, Mireille Asselin, and Cynthia Smithers; Tenors Colin Ainsworth and Christopher Enns; Mezzo-Soprano Danielle MacMillan; and Artists of Atelier Ballet. David Fallis will conduct a production directed by Pynkoski. The creative team will also include videographer Marcel Canzona, editor Michael Hannan and consultant Gordon Henderson.

Audiences can check out the live stream via the Opera Atelier official website.
