Opera a Sassari to Stream ‘Suor Angelica’

By Francisco Salazar

The Opera a Sassari will continue its 2020 season via streaming.

The Italian theater will offer Puccini’s “Suor Angelica” for free on L’Ente on Nov. 6, 7, and 8. The cast will include Maria Teresa Leva in the title role and Anna Maria Chiuri as the Princess. Aldo Sisillo conducts the production which is set to be directed by Giulio Ciabatt.

The company will also stream “Gianni Schicchi” at a later date.

The new streaming dates come after Italy was forced to close all theaters and cinemas due to a surge in COVID-19 cases. As a result, numerous productions were canceled. The Opera a Sassari is one of the many Italian theaters which is looking at ways to keep opera and culture going in this hard time. The Teatro Filarmonico and Donizetti Opera Festival have already announced streaming initiatives to offer live opera.
