Opera 5’s announced its 2023-24 season along with the new Opera 5 – Opera McGill Intern Program.

The season opens with the digital release of the complete first season of “Threepenny Submarine,” a children’s opera and puppet show. Singers include Caitlin Wood, Rachel Krehm, Adanya Dunn, Scott Rumble, and Clarence Frazer. The chamber ensemble features musicians from the Toronto Symphony, Kingston Symphony, Hamilton Philharmonic, and Musicians of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.

“Come Closer,” a new opera by Ryan Trew and librettist Rachel Krehm, with poetry by the late Elizabeth Krehm, will see a workshop with Opera McGill at the Schulich School of Music featuring a cast from the Opera McGill Studio.

Performance Date: November 9, 2023

Closing the season is Britten’s “The Turn of the Screw.” Asitha Tennekoon, Elizabeth Polese, Ryan McDonald, Thera Barclay, and Rachel Krehm are among the cast. Evan Mitchell conducts the Kingston Symphony and Amanda Smith directs.
