Oper Leipzig Announces Production Change for ‘Lohengrin’

By Francisco Salazar

Oper Leipzig has announced a change in its production of Wagner’s “Lohengrin.”

The company noted that opera, which is set to open on March 26, will now be staged by the house director Patrick Bialdyga rather than the originally planned Katharina Wagner.

In a statement, Artistic Director Ulf Schirmer,  said that the change was due to “technical difficulties with the stage design.”

Wagner added, “We were all very much looking forward to the completion of the new production that had already been rehearsed in Barcelona.” The production is now slated to premiere in Barcelona in 2025.

“Lohengrin” is set to star Gal James, Gabriela Scherer, Kathrin Göring, Sebastian Pilgrim, Klaus Florian Vogt, and Simon Neal. Christoph Gedschold conducts.
