Oper Graz Reveals 2019-20 Season

Oper Graz has announced its 2019-20 season, which will include a slew of new productions and some revivals.

The company opens its season with a new production of “Don Carlo” with Aurelian Florian as Elisabetta. Oksana Volkova takes on Eboli with Neven Crnic and Dariusz Perczak as Rodrigo. Casting for Carlo and Filippo are TBD. Jetske directs, while Marcus Merkel and Oksana Lyniv rotate in the podium.

Performance Dates: Sept. 15, 2019-June 26, 2020

Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette returns to the company with Marius Burkert conducting. Katerina Tretyakov stars as Juliette with Anna Brull as Stéphano. Christina Baader is Gertrude. The tenor taking on the role of Roméo has not been announced yet.

Performance Dates: Oct. 10-31, 2019

Alexander Geller, Mareike Jankowski, Anna Brull, Albert Memeti, and Mario Lerchenberger star in “Die Fledermaus,” which will be featured in a production by Maximilian von Mayenburg. Merkel and Burkert conduct.

Performance Dates: Oct. 6, 2019-Feb. 2, 2020

“Königskinder” will be showcased with a cast that includes Polina Pastirchak, Ivan Orescanin, Markus Butter, Christina Baader, Wilfried Zelinka, Martin Fournier, and David McShane, among others.

Performance Dates: Dec. 1, 2019 – March 18, 2020

Elisabeth Stöppler directs a new production of “Don Giovanni with Markus Butter, Alexey Birkus, Dmitrii Lebamba, Katerina Tretyakova, Pavel Petrov, Anna Brull, Neven Crnic, and Dariusz Perczak. Andrea Sanguineti and Merkel conduct.

Performance Dates: Jan 12, 2020- June 7, 2020

Wennberg’s “Die Passagieren” takes the stage with a cast featuring Nadja Stefanoff, Markus Butter, Eva-Maria Schmid, Tetiana Miyus, Antonia-Cosmina Stancu, and Andrea Purtic, among others. Merkel and Lyniv conduct a production by Nadja Loschky.

Performance Dates: March 1, 2019- May 14, 2020

The company will showcase a concert performance of “Peace on Earth,” which includes the eponymous composition by Schoenberg and “Oedipus Rex” by Stravinsky. Lyniv conducts while Sunnyi Melles, Ales Briscein, and Wilfried Zelinka star.

Performance Date: April 2, 2020

Bizet’s “The Pearl Fishers” will be directed by Ben Baur with Tetiana Miyus, Pavel Petrov, and Dariusz Perczak starring. Burkert conducts.

Performance Dates: March 29-June 20, 2020

But I am Nowhere, Ah! At Home” gets a concert performance. The work features music by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, and Mahler. It will feature Nikolaus Habjan.

Performance Date: April 25, 2020 

Pergolesi’s “La Serva Padrona” and “The Corridor” will be presented as well, though the company has not revealed information about cast or even dates to this point.
