Oper Graz 2018-19 Season To Feature Puccini, Rossini & Flotow

Oper Graz has announced its 2018-19 season with a number of rarely-performed operas and musicals. It will also include a number of operatic warhorses.

Here is a look.

Productions 

The double bill “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci” opens the season with a distinguished cast that includes Aldo di Toro singing both lead roles, while Audun Iversen and Yngve Soberg share the roles of Alfio and Tonio. Ezgi Kutlu sings the role of Santuzza, while Aurelia Florian and Sonja Saric share the role of Nedda. Oksana Lyniv conducts the production by Lorenzo Fioroni.

Production Dates: Opens Sept. 29, 2018

Anna Brull, Tansel Akzeybek, and Dariusz Perezak lead Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” with Marcus Merkel, conducting a production by Axel Kohler.

Performance Dates: opens Oct. 5, 2018

Katja Berg plays the lead role in Cole Porter’s “Kiss Me Kate” with Marc Lamberty, Andrea Luca Cotti, and Bettina Monch. Marcus Merkel and Marius Burkert conduct Lee Blakeley’s production.

Performance Dates:  Opens Oct. 20, 2018

Strauss’ “Salome” takes the stage with Johanni van Osstrum in the title role and Thomas Gazheli and Wilfried Zelinka as Jochanaan. Oksana Lyniv and Marius Burkert alternate in the pit.

Performance Dates: Opens Nov. 10, 2018

The season follows with Joseph Beer’s “Polnische Hochzeit” with Marius Burkert and Marcus Merkel sharing the pit. Dirk Lohr, Sieglinde Feldhofer, Markus Butter, and Mathias Hausmann star in the production by Sebastian Ritschel.

Performance dates: Opens Dec. 8, 2018

Flotow’s “Martha” gets a new production by Peter Lund with Tetiana Miyus, Anna Brull, and Ilker Arcayurek starring. Marius Burkert and Robin Engelen conduct.

Performance Dates: Opens Jan. 12, 2019

Markus Butter, Aurelia Florian, Andrzej Lampert, and Manuel Van Senden star in Symanowski’s “Krol Roger” with Holger Muller-Brandes directing the production. Roland Kluttig and  Robin Engelen conduct.

Performance Dates: Opens Feb. 14, 2019

Verena Stober directs a production of Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” with Ana Durlovski singing the title role. Rodion Pogossov, Dariusz Perezak, Pavel Petrov, Antonio Poli and Alexey Birkus also star.

Performance Dates: March 23, 2019

Weber’s “Oberon” will also be performed with Ilker Arcayurek in the title role and Anna Brull, Gisela Stille, Uwe Stickert, and Birgit Minichmayr in other roles.

Performance Dates: Opens May 9, 2019

Annemarie Kremer sings the title role in Puccini’s “Tosca” with Martin Muehle as Cavaradossi and Jordan Shanahan as Scarpia. Oksana Lyniv and Marcus Merkel conduct.

Performance Dates: Opens May 16, 2019

Concerts 

The season will also include concerts featuring Leo Nucci, Louise Alder, and Maria Mudryak.
