OPCM to World Premiere Requiem by François Dompierre

By David Salazar

Montréal’s Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir of Musicians (OPCM) will close out it season with a performance featuring two Requiems on June 7 -9 , 2024.

The program will feature Fauré’s famed take on the musical mass alongside the world premiere of François Dompierre’s version.

“When you commission a requiem from an 80-year-old composer, it gives you pause,” Dompierre said in an official press release. “The upcoming and inevitable deadline forces him to take an in-depth look at the texts of this singular liturgy. After a dramatic ‘Introit’ and an interrogative ‘Kyrie,’ contradictory feelings will follow: pity, memory, liberation and, finally, joy to end the work with an ‘In Paradisum’ in the form of a happy ending.”

The showcase will include 35 musicians, three soloists, and a choir of 80 choristers, all under the musical direction of Francis Choinière, who has worked with Dompierre since 2022.

The June 7 and 8 showcases will take place at the Maison Symphonique in Montréal while the June 9 performance will take the stage at Palais Montcalm in Québec.
