The Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Kirill Petrenko will present Tchaikovsky’s “Mazeppa” on May 15, 2021.

The performance, which was originally scheduled for Easter at the Festspielhaus Baden Baden and later rescheduled for May 6 and 9 and later canceled, will star Vladislav Sulimsky as Mazeppa, Olga Peretyatko, Vitalij Kowaljow, Oksana Volkova, Dmitry Golovnin, Dimitry Ivashchenko, Anton Rositskiy, and Alexander Kravets.

The performance will be presented on the Berlin Philharmonic’s Digital Concert Hall.

“Mazeppa” was composed five years earlier than “Eugene Onegin” and was based on a poem by Alexander Pushkin. The work tells the story of the tragic life and loves of a Ukrainian Cossack commander against the background of events during the reign of Peter the Great.
