The Staatsoper Stuttgart has announced a unique new production for Wagner’s “Die Walküre.”

In an official press statement, the company revealed that three different directors would be taking on the opera, one director per act.

Taking on Act one will be Dutch theatre collective Hotel Modern. Light designer Urs Schönebaum will take over Act two while visual artist Ulla von Brandenburg will be charged with helming Act three.

The opera is set to star Okka von der Damerau in her debut as Brünnhilde with Brian Mulligan taking on the role of Wotan. As Sieglinde and Siegmund, audiences will see Simone Schneider and Michael König. Hunding will be interpreted by Goran Juric.

General Music Director Cornelius Meister will conduct the showcase.

The production is set to open on April 10, 2022 and marks the opening of Staatsoper Stuttgart’s Spring Festival #3; there will be additional performances of “Die Walküre” on April 18, 23, 29, and May 2, 2022.
