Ojai Music Festival Names John Adams & American Modern Opera Company As Music Directors For Upcoming Editions

The Ojai Music Festival has announced its 75th anniversary celebrations including two major appointments for upcoming festivals.

The company started off by announcing the composer John Adams, best known for “Nixon in China” and “Doctor Atomic,” would be the music director for the 2021 festival, which will take place between June 10-13, 2021.

But the bigger surprise was in the naming of the American Modern Opera Company as the music director for the 2022 season, which takes place between June 9-12, 2022.

These two announcements kick off the tenure of Ara Guzleminian, who is currently Ojai Music Festival and Artistic Director Designate.

“AMOC, the 2022 Music Director, is not exactly an opera company but a remarkable collective of composers, singers, stage directors, choreographers, dancers, and instrumentalists who are among the brightest and freshest artistic voices to emerge in the last few years,” stated Guzelimian in a press release. “We will make our first Ojai acquaintance with numerous members of AMOC as well as welcome back such Festival artists as Julia Bullock, Davóne Tines, and Jay Campbell. We are in for a great adventure.”

The 2020 edition of the Festival kicks off on June 11-14, 2020.
