Odesa National Academic Opera Announces New Opera Competition

The Odesa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre has announced a new artistic project – the First International Opera Singers Competition “RECITAR CANTANDO” (“Acting through Singing”).

The competition will be held for the first time in September 2025 in Odesa.

The First International Opera Singers Competition RECITAR CANTANDO will be a unique platform for opera singers from various countries, offering effective opportunities to showcase their talent, establish creative connections, exchange professional experience, and open prospects for professional growth.

The competition will be funded by the Odesa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Ukraine, the Honorary Consulate of Italy in Odesa, the Italian Cultural Institute in Ukraine, and the production agency “Opera Production C.D.” (Austria), with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, Odesa Regional Military Administration, Odesa Regional Council, Odesa City Council, Ukrainian Commercial Bank Vostok, and the Odesa National Music Academy named after A. V. Nezhdanova.

This year, the jury will be made up of Nicola Colabianchi (Superintendent of Teatro La Fenice di Venezia), soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska, Massimo Morelli (Director of Conservatorio di Musica “L. Boccherini” di Lucca), Hirofumi Yoshida (Director of Rising Sun Opera Foundation), Enrico Copedé (Director of Opera Production C.D. Agency), Laura Berman (Artistic director of Staatstheater Hannover), Vasyl Koval (Principal conductor of the Odesa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, Honoured artist of Ukraine), Olena Stakhovska (Professor, head of the solo singing department of the vocal-choir faculty of the Odessa National A. V. Nezhdanova Music Academy), Fulvio Macciardi (President of the National Association of Opera Theatres of the Italian Republic, Member of the European Cultural Parliament, Member of the Council of Opera Europa, Professor), and Federico Pupo (Artistic Director of Teatro Carlo Felice).
