
Obituary: Thomas Fey Passes Away at 65

Conductor Thomas Fey passed away on June 27. He was 65.
Fey was born in German on Nov. 9, 1960. He studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim and the Salzburg Mozarteum. As as a student he founded the Heidelberger Motetenchor in 1985 and in 1987, the Schlierbach Chamber Orchestra (now Heidelberger Sinfoniker).
His discography includes two major recording projects: a complete cycle of Haydn’s symphonies for the Hänssler label and a complete set of Beethoven’s symphonies. Fey also recorded much of Mozart’s music along with founding “Mozart Week Festival” in Heidelberg and the Mozart Mannheim Orchestra.
Fey passed due to complications from a previous brain injury.
