Obituary: Tenor Andres Ramirez Passes At Age 28

By David Salazar

Tenor Andres Ramirez has passed away at age 28.

Per a blog post on the Los Angeles Opera’s website, the tenor has been part of the organization’s creative family since he was 11-years-old when he sang in the LA Children’s Chorus during a performance of “Tosca.”

He was also a participant in one of the first Opera Camps. He made his debut as a member of the LA Chorus during the 2017-18 season in Bizet’s “The Pearl Fishers.”

“Andy was a fabulous tenor and seriously, one of the kindest individuals I’ve met.  He also taught the opera workshop at LACHSA and his students LOVED him,” stated mezzo-soprano Erin Alford, who also made her debut with Ramirez as a member of the chorus.

There is a fundraiser on Facebook aimed at helping raise funds for his memorial and burial.

“This fund was created by Devony Smith, Megan Moran, and Katharine McDonough to help unite those who are mourning the loss of our precious friend, and are looking for a way to help/contribute,” says the post. “Thank you so much for your support. We love you Andy and miss you already!”
